Competition Details:

The competition is open to all cake makers and cake decorators.  Each participant is responsible for providing their own cakes for the event, but they must be prepared in a professional industry kitchen that is sanitary and has met all health inspection regulations.  Proper food handling procedures must be followed.  Those who do not bake may still enter if they find a professional sponsor or baker to create their cakes.  Lists of ingredients of each cake must be provided.  Each person will need three cakes and they can be any shape or size.  Participants are responsible for transporting their cakes to the venue and getting their cakes to their designated work area.  Participants are responsible for bringing all tools and supplies, as well as decorating ingredients, fondant icing, sprinkles, etc. for the competition.  There will be supplies available for a fee which can be ordered at the time of registration.  Bingemans can also supply cakes to those who are unable to prepare their own cakes or provide their own baking sponsors.  All participants must be over the age of 19 (due to prizes involving wine-see below)

For the competition there would be three cakes each person would have to create for the competition.  Two would have specific theme requires, which would be unknown to the competitors until the day of so they all find out at the same time, and then there would be a freestyle category where they have a specified amount of time (as do the other two themes) to create any design or theme they like.  Each person would then have completed three cakes and would be evaluated on all of them throughout the day.  Those cakes would be the ones being sampled in the evening by guests.  Those who bake are also able to sell their other good (other than the three cakes) at the event and the proceeds of the “Cake Sale” would go to support Nutrition for Learning.

Judging: A panel of local celebrity judges will decide the winners of each category.  Rubrics will be created to ensure judging is unbiased and will use a numerical system with numerous sections of the evaluation to determine a score for each round.  Those with the highest scores throughout the day will be ranked first, second and third and the top
